Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him—and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y'all beg for more.

-- Goodreads.com description --

This book was so much fun! I read somewhere that this book was a mix between Legally Blonde and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that is absolutely true. Harper even reminds me a little of Lemon, Annabeth and Crickett from Hart of Dixie. That's how I see Harper and Bee anyway. I loved the friendship between those two, even though is was strained a little because of the secrets Harper needed to keep. Very excited about the ending, though!

Rebel Belle is  funny, romantic, cute, sweet and very quick to read. I read this at exactly the right time as well. After reading The Lies of Locke Lamora, I needed something light and sweet to read. Everything fell into place and I am so happy I finally read this book. I gave this book four out of five stars. And now I have to wait a while till the paperback version of the second book in the series called Miss Mayhem comes out. Let me tell you, that is one book I'm highly anticipating! I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun light read!
